McNab Alpine. Trekking and Mountaineering in the alps

McNab's is a small specialised company that have been running the very best in alpine activities for over 8 years. Our treks and trips vary from the supported Tour du Mont Blanc to the extreme mountaineering on the summit of Mont Blanc.
Keeping it small means we all work closely together to give you the best hands on experience. We run everything from our own chalet in Argentiere, work with a great team of guides (all UIAGM/IFMGA qualified) and love what we're doing. So let us help you make your alpine experience the best.
The chalet is available for bed and breakfast throughout the summer.
Personalised trekking and mountaineering trips can also be arranged.

Chamonix

Chamonix has always been a favourite destination for the alpine enthusiast and with its huge variety of trails, treks and climbs in and around the valley, the Chamonix valley and surrounding alps have something to suit every level of alpinist.

Levels of difficulty

Treks

Although both treks and mountaineering holidays can be physically demanding our treks do not make use of any mountaineering equipment (unless roping up is required). The routes are a lower altitude to the mountaineering routes, do not cross the snow line and do not involve crossing glaciers. All of our treks are lead by qualified European Mountain Leaders.

Treks do vary in length, terrain and height gain, therefore to give you an idea about how our different treks compare we have given them a rating out of five which indicates how demanding the trek is.

Mountaineering

In comparison to our trekking holidays our mountaineering trips do involve the use of mountaineering techniques and technical equipment (often these are taught during the trip). Routes are generally higher, often above the snow line and will involve crossing glaciers. These trips are lead by UIAGM/IFMGA High Mountain Guides.
Levels of Difficulty In order to compare our different mountaineering holidays we have awarded each trip a rating out of five for technical difficulty and a rating out of five for how physically demanding the trip is.

All our courses and treks are run from our chalet in Argentiere in the Chamonix valley. Our Chalet sits at the end of a quiet lane backing onto woodland. It has spectacular views of Mont Blanc and its massif. A wonderfully welcoming and comfortable chalet, guestes are treated to a hearty cooked breakfast, afternoon tea and exceptional 3 course meals. UIAGM/IFMGA Guides

The carnet of the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA) or Union Internationale des Associations de Guides de Montagnes (UIAGM) is the highest professional award attainable in mountaineering. It is recognised throughout the world, and is a legal requirement in most european countries for any person taking clients into the mountains on or above glacier level, whether climbing or skiing. To achieve the IFMGA carnet takes tremendous dedication to mountaineering and a high level of skill in all aspects of the sport including rock climbing, ice climbing, alpine climbing and ski touring. It also requires a portfolio of climbing experience which takes years to acquire. All of our team of guides are either Full Guides holding the International Carnet or Aspirant Guides working through the scheme that have passed all the requisite exams to allow them to work legally in the Alps.
